My Encounter with a Perv

06/17/2020

We live inside a subdivision for 2 years now. I love that we have our own home now but those 2 years had been very challenging for us. On our first year here, one of the construction workers tried to sneak inside our house and I was alone at that time. My husband works as a seafarer. My brother lives with me but he is always out. Thus, leaving me alone in the house. I had already noticed even before that this creep had been keeping tabs on me. He kept on glancing at our house and I caught him several times gawking at me for no reason. Until one night when he was drunk, I was inside the house, changing our curtains when someone tried to open the door near the kitchen. (I didn't lock my door yet because it was still 7pm.) Thank God for faulty door knobs. He wasn't able to open the door successfully. I immediately locked the door. But I opened the window and I saw him there just staring at me blankly when I hollered, "What do you want?" He did not respond. Instead after a few minutes, he came back, this time, he tried to pry open our window. It scared the hell out of me. I tried to catch the attention of my neighbors but sadly, nobody even tried to help me. I was upset at that time and I called my mother who lives in our home town which is at least 5 hours away from me by fast craft. To give you a background, our neighborhood doesn't have a good cell service so I had to look for a spot just to get cell service. I tried to contact my brother but did not even bother to reply. I had never felt alone. I realized that I can never count on people. I had to be strong on my own.

I made a complaint to the subdivision management about the incident but my complaint fell on deaf ears. In fact, they decided to victim-blame. Even my own family blamed me for what I happened. They told me that I had to tone down the way I dress because I am making myself a target. Mind you, I do not wear short shorts or skimpy dresses or skirts but I was still targeted. Now, how is that my fault?
So, when my husband went home after a few months following that incident, he decided to have gates installed in our house. He also installed burglar alarms. I think our house is a lot safer now compared to 2 years ago but that experience taught me a lot of lessons. First, never rely on someone even your own blood. Second, don't expect any kind of help from neighbors. They are only there for the show but not to help (They asked me what happened last night but never bothered to check on me at the time of the incident). Finally, don't get too friendly with strangers. I actually tried to be friendly with the construction workers before because I didn't want to appear snobbish. Now, I knew better.

I'm just glad I'm safe and I sure hope that old perv will get his karma for what he did.
